Ripe, Red, and Juicy

Today the girls and I went on a field trip to a strawberry farm in Holden, Louisiana. http://www.blahutstrawberryfarm.com/ We had a ball and the girls each picked a gallon of berries. They told the kids to eat as many as they possibly could hold before filling up their buckets. I was taking pictures and helping pick (not having a bucket of my own - I figured two gallons was enough but I was wrong). I was also eating the yummy berries right off the bush. This farm grows their berries organically, so that was quite permissible. They were by far some of the sweetest berries I've ever tasted.
Morgan brought along her best friend, as the public schools were out for spring break. They had so much fun picking berries together - and eating them, too.

These aren't all the kids on the field trip - these are just the ones we know!

Don't these look delicious?

Almost full, girls! More picking, less eating, please!

Or not!

We happen to have a Strawberry farm about 20 acres straight behind our land. The kids love to go to the farm and pick a big basket of strawberries. They do taste yummy!!! What a fun field trip!

FUN! We LOVE strawberries... can't wait for better produce to start arriving way up here! It's been a LONG winter.... We bought some strawberries at the store the other day and they didn't even taste like strawberries and weren't very red. ONE of these days we'll be getting some yummy ones in like the ones in your pictures! I can almost taste them now.

When you get strawberries in the store, you can tell if they are NOT Louisiana berries - they will have a hole in the center when you take a bite. The hole is from lack of rain - if we have a lack of rain in Louisiana, it is in July/August. Never when berries are ripening. :^D

Interesting about the holes in the berries.

Oh, those look delicious! I want to come by. How long were you there, picking? Great pictures! I love the last one, very pretty close up of a real strawberry picker (I mean eater). :)

Kathy, we arrived at the strawberry farm at 9:30, received our instructions and buckets, and were in the fields at least by 9:45. We were home and eating lunch by 11:30 and the strawberry farm is about half an hour away, so it didn't take long at all for each child to fill their gallon bucket.
